Whitney Sellers Update and Thank You

First I want to thank you all so much for your contributions of money (to the recovery fund) and your prayers over the last few months. The response was overwhelming and speaking for the entire family we are so appreciative of our incredible community of family and friends. You are all fantastic!

Secondly,an update on the medical situation. I have been holding off on letting everyone know more details until we received more information from the doctors. A couple weeks ago the doctors looked at Whitney’s jaw again and confirmed there would be no need for surgery and she could begin some dental work in about 3 weeks. The next major step was the xray on her pelvic bone to check on the multiple fractures and she had that this morning. They were very happy with her level of recovery and are allowing her to,slowly, begin to walk again. As you know she already had major surgery on her hip which they believe was very successful so she will start with a walker starting today and gradually get her balance and strength back. The key here is not too much too soon so it will be watched carefully. Eventually she will go to crutches – and then the triathlon!! We think she may be able to go back to school in the next 2-4 weeks but that will be determined by level of strength and stability obviously.

On a further note we finally received work back from the investigators that the driver of the vehicle was in fact intoxicated (6 weeks to get blood tests back??) so he will be charged with felony vehicular assault which now is in the prosecutors hands. That piece of this tragedy will follow its own path so our main concern now is Whitney’s full recovery.

Again, thank you all and we send you good wishes and many blessings from the entire family.

Peace &Love

Bill

Welcome

From Whitney’s grandfather,Bill Shields:

Whitney Sellers, age 13,was hit in a crosswalk on Sunday,August 7th,and suffered major injuries including a fractured hip and pelvis, broken jaw and knee and numerous cuts and scrapes. Whitney will have to learn to walk again and can’t even begin this process for 6-8 weeks. It appears that some medical will be covered but the battle is just beginning and her mother,Jenny, will be at home with her for a long time.

A great deal of support and therapy will certainly be needed to help Whitney recover, both mentally and physically,so a friend of Jenny’s who works for the Rotary has coordinated with Key Bank to set up a fund for donations (details below). This is a ‘silent receipt’fund but just know that anything you can help with will be a blessing and hopefully mitigate at least some stress.
